Ammonia or Vinegar: Which Is Better For Windows Cleaning?

You can clean your windows in various ways – buy a cleaning solution from the market or can make your own solution to remove those stains from your windows.

Here are the two home products that you can use to clean your windows are:
  •  vinegar,
  •  ammonia,
  •  or a mixture of both.

VinegarIf your windows are new and have you don’t have any idea what to use for your windows, it’s always better to use vinegar to clean stains. Vinegar is acidic in nature and can break down the grease, germs, and mold in your windows. Depending on your vinegar’s acidity content, you can dilute it with water without removing its strong cleaning properties.

AmmoniaAmmonia has corrosive properties and helps in breaking the grease and grime pretty quickly. You can dilute ammonia with water to be safe, as ammonia can burn exposed skin and eyes in high concentrations. Moreover, make sure to use ammonia in well-ventilated areas to avoid irritating the throat and lungs.

MixtureBoth, ammonia and vinegar make low-cost window glass cleaners that can remove fingerprints, stains, dirt, and hard water spots. However, most of the window contracts don’t recommend it but there is no harm in doing this. Mixing ammonia with alcohol creates a byproduct salt water that robs both of their cleaning properties.

We suggest you to “mix two tablespoons of ammonia or white vinegar with two quarts of warm water” rather than mixing ammonia and vinegar.

Which one is best – Ammonia or Vinegar?

Both vinegar and ammonia are good cleaning agents, but if you want to be on the safe side, use vinegar to clean your windows as it’s less hazardous in nature.
